The 5 Best Young Players in Ligue 1
From established European champion Désiré Doué to teenage midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, Ligue 1 continues to provide some of the most exciting young talent in European soccer.
Ligue 1 has long been one of Europe’s most productive environments for young players, and the 2026/27 season is no exception. Some are already major international stars, while others are only beginning to establish themselves at senior level.
Here are five of the best young players to watch in France this season.

At 21, Désiré Doué is already much more than a prospect. The Paris Saint-Germain attacker won the UNFP Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season in 2025/26 after recording seven goals and three assists from only 15 league starts.
His versatility is one of his biggest strengths. Doué can play centrally or wide, create chances and attack defenders one-on-one. After becoming an important player for the French and European champion, the next step is establishing himself among Ligue 1’s very best regardless of age.
2. Ayyoub Bouaddi — Lille

Few teenagers in Europe play midfield with the composure of Ayyoub Bouaddi.
The Lille academy product became one of the club’s most important midfielders during 2025/26, making 30 appearances despite being only 18. Ligue 1’s own editorial team selected him among its standout candidates for Young Player of the Season because of his ability to protect possession, break lines and contribute defensively. (Ligue 1)
Lille has already secured his future with a contract through 2029.
3. Warren Zaïre-Emery — Paris Saint-Germain

It is easy to forget how young Warren Zaïre-Emery still is because of how much elite soccer he has already played.
The PSG midfielder was among the club’s leaders in Ligue 1 minutes during 2025/26 and was also selected by France for the 2026 World Cup.
His physical strength, ball carrying and tactical maturity allow him to operate in several midfield roles. In a squad filled with stars, remaining so heavily involved says plenty about his level.
4. Lamine Camara — AS Monaco

Lamine Camara offers a different type of midfield profile. The 22-year-old AS Monaco player combines defensive intensity with the ability to progress possession and contribute creatively.
During 2025, he finished among Ligue 1’s leading assist providers, while one standout performance against PSG in March 2026 included 13 ball recoveries and 10 duels won.
Already a Senegal international, Camara enters 2026/27 as one of Monaco’s most important midfielders.
5. Ibrahim Mbaye — Paris Saint-Germain

The youngest name on the list is Ibrahim Mbaye.
Born in January 2008, the PSG academy forward has already broken into the senior squad and represented Senegal at the 2026 World Cup. (Ligue 1)
His role is still developing, but his speed, directness and early exposure to elite competition make him one of the most intriguing teenagers in France.
From Doué’s established quality to Mbaye’s potential, Ligue 1 once again enters a new season with youth at the center of its identity.
