An all-American matchup kicks off a brand-new season of Ligue 1 on beIN SPORTS

When the tantalizing clash between Marseille vs. Strasbourg kicks off the 2026-27 Ligue 1 season on Friday, there will be two familiar faces for USMNT fans lining up on opposite sides of the pitch: Timothy Weah and Gio Reyna. Along with Folarin Balogun at Monaco, Ligue 1 is very much waving the Stars and Stripes this year.

As well as the desperate need to draw a line across a troubled last campaign for Marseille, Weah will look to start the season with a win as the American wingback is the new captain of the legendary Ligue 1 club. That is just one of many changes at Marseille, which is attempting a reboot under new coach, Brunio Genesio, a figure with stature and experience in the French game.

Friday's visitors are also starting the season with a new coach in the form of Hugo Oliveira. One of the most exciting additions by the Portuguese manager was bringing in USMNT midfielder, Gio Reyna, who made his Strasbourg debut in a friendly this weekend and is set to play a huge role in the campaign to come.
