Monaco Stay in Pursuit of Ligue 1's Top Spot
A goal and an assist from the Russian Alexandr Golovin were enough for Monaco to overcome Brest (2-0) and rejuvenate their position in the Ligue 1 standings in France.
Formerly the league leader, until they fell to Lille, Adi Hutter's team secured another victory. They outperformed a crisis-ridden opponent that, after a strong start, has faltered. This marked their third consecutive defeat, and they are now on the verge of dropping from the top positions.
Monaco opened the scoring after fifteen minutes, with a corner delivered by Golovin that was headed into the net by Swiss player Denis Zakaria.
The second goal came at the one-hour mark when Golovin found the net for the second time, beating Marco Bizot after receiving a pass from Youssouf Fofana.
Brest ended the match with ten players, and in added time, Lilian Brassie was sent off.
