Luis Enrique Discusses Competition in All Positions
This Friday in a press conference, PSG's coach addressed the busy schedule of the team and the potential desire to rotate players against Lille ahead of the Champions League.
Luis Enrique maintains the mystery regarding the composition of Paris Saint-Germain that will face Lille in the clash of the 21st day of Ligue 1 this Saturday at 9:00 PM. Four days before the highly anticipated Champions League round of 16 against Real Sociedad, the Parisian coach remains elusive about the possibility of resting some key players during the league match. Even Kylian Mbappé, slightly injured in the ankle on Wednesday during the Coupe de France match against Brest, will be in the squad and "available to play."
In the press conference this Friday, Luis Enrique explained his management of playing time for each of his players: "We are at a point in the season where we play every three days. (...) We must plan different options with the coaching staff to remain competitive. We should not underestimate any match or think that the other is more important. The match against Brest in the Cup was important, as well as the match against Lille in the league and, of course, the one in the Champions League. All matches are important."
"The team is prepared to win against Lille and not think too much about what comes next"
Without closing the door to tactical changes, Enrique advocates for competition to play in all three competitions: "We are a squad, a group. We try to have two players per position to be competitive in all competitions. We do not intend to forget some matches; we must be competitive, have a good level to win all matches." In an interview with the club's media, PSGTV, the Parisian coach was clear. "The official answer is that we are not thinking about the Champions League," he joked. His unofficial answer? "We are at home, we have a clear goal. We want to win all titles, and the team is prepared to win against Lille and not think too much about what comes next."
