Barcelona Responds to Atlético and Says It Crossed a “Red Line” Over Julián Álvarez

The dispute between Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid over Julián Álvarez has intensified following the latest comments from Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, the Atlético CEO. The response from the Catalan club was immediate and emphatic: Rafa Yuste accused the Atlético executive of crossing a “red line.”

Barcelona’s vice president of sporting operations made the comments to Movistar after the Champions League draw and defended his club’s position amid the accusations coming from Madrid.

Rafa Yuste Hits Back at Miguel Ángel Gil Marín

For Rafa Yuste, the Atlético CEO’s comments were not simply unfortunate. The Barcelona executive believes they crossed a boundary that the Catalan club is not willing to accept.

With these words, a red line has been crossed. I do not understand his words at all. Nor do I share them; his words anger me,” Yuste told Movistar.

The vice president also described the comments as “out of line” and said they represented a “lack of education and respect” toward the Barcelona institution.

Gil Marín said Julián Álvarez is “really unhappy” because certain people had allegedly been responsible for “deceiving and confusing him.” The Atlético executive also said that the alleged “falsehood” from Barcelona was something he “finds repulsive.”

Barcelona Says It Respects Atlético and Julián Álvarez

Despite the strong tone of his response, Rafa Yuste insisted that Barcelona maintains respect for Atlético de Madrid and for all players.

The executive explained that interest in a player who could wear the Barcelona shirt is naturally something that excites the club. However, he maintained that a potential attempt to sign a player does not mean acting outside established parameters.

Before the Champions League draw in Monaco, Yuste also spoke with Enrique Cerezo and the Gil family. According to Yuste, the encounter took place within the institutional setting of the event, and both sides shared their respective positions.

Barcelona’s Offer for Julián Álvarez Remains on the Table

Despite the confrontation between the two clubs’ executives, Barcelona has not ruled out signing Julián Álvarez.

Yuste avoided definitively closing the door on the deal and referred back to previous comments from Joan Laporta, who had confirmed that Barcelona’s offer for the Argentine forward remains on the table.

Atlético, meanwhile, maintains a completely different position. According to comments attributed to Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, the Spanish club does not intend to negotiate directly with Barcelona and believes the situation has created both sporting and institutional consequences.
