Real Madrid: The World's Most Valuable Brand
Real Madrid has once again positioned itself as the world's most valuable football club brand according to Brand Finance's 2024 Football 50 ranking, with a brand value of $1.842 billion. They are followed by Manchester City with $1.7 billion and Barcelona with €1.68 billion.
The Madrid club had lost this top spot to the English club in 2023, but a 15.5% increase from last year's $1.59 billion has returned them to the top, where they had been continuously from 2019 until last year. They've been in the top-3 since 2010.
Barcelona remains among the top three, a position they've held since 2016. Behind them in the top-10 are Manchester United ($1.528 billion), Liverpool ($1.5 billion), Bayern Munich ($1.351 billion), PSG ($1.321 billion), Arsenal ($1.089 billion), Tottenham Hotspur ($949 million), and Chelsea ($915 million).
Among other Spanish teams, Atlético de Madrid is next on the list, ranking 13th with $566 million. Following them are Sevilla (32nd), Athletic (35th), Betis (39th), Valencia (48th), and Villarreal (50th).
Additionally, Real Madrid remains at the top of the brand strength ranking with a score of 96.3. Liverpool is second (93.7), Manchester City third (92.8), and Barcelona fourth (92.7).
Brand value is understood as the net economic benefit that the owner of a brand would achieve by licensing it in the open market. Brand strength measures the effectiveness of a brand's performance in intangible metrics compared to its competitors.
"There are doubts about whether Spanish clubs can keep up with Real Madrid. The signing of Kylian Mbappé by Real Madrid, along with Ballon d'Or favorites Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Júnior, further consolidates their dominance. The question remains whether these big stars will benefit the team or create clashes among top players," commented Pilar Alonso Ulloa, Managing Director Iberia and South America of Brand Finance.
