Real Madrid Hold Training Session in Front of THOUSANDS of Fans
On Saturday, Real Madrid held its traditional Christmas open training session, attended by 5,700 fans at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium. However, French players Eduardo Camavinga and Ferland Mendy, along with Spanish player Lucas Vázquez, were absent. The trio trained separately on an adjacent field. According to club sources, Camavinga, who joined the group on Friday but faced setbacks in recovery, and Mendy will miss the upcoming match against Mallorca on Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Lucas Vázquez is uncertain and will depend on his feelings when he can rejoin the group after overcoming back discomfort from the last match against Alavés on December 21, where he scored the winning goal (0-1).
Long-term injured players Thibaut Courtois, Éder Militao, and David Alaba, who are recovering from anterior cruciate ligament injuries in the left knee, did not participate.
The session began with warm-up drills with and without the ball, followed by rondos, shots, and crosses. After 40 minutes, Brazilians Rodrygo Goes and Vinícius Junior, along with Dani Carvajal and Arda Güler, focused on specific drills with and without the ball to prepare for the Mallorca match.
To compensate for the absent players, Carlo Ancelotti, who was renewed as Real Madrid's coach until 2026 on Friday, included six youth players: goalkeeper Fran González, defenders Manu Serrano, David Cuenca, and David Jiménez, and midfielders Borja Alonso and Hugo de Llanos.
The 90-minute training session concluded with a small-sided game, where Ancelotti tested the central defensive pair for the Mallorca match—Rüdiger with Tchoauméni—and concluded with shots on goal. Players then distributed balls among the thousands of fans present at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium.
