Liverpool Could Steal the signing from Real Madrid: Revenge for Trent-Alexander Arnold?
The future of Florian Wirtz remains a mystery. With multiple football giants chasing the 22-year-old German, the transfer battle is intensifying. For several weeks, reports suggested that Bayern Munich were in pole position to land the Bayer Leverkusen star. However, a new and powerful competitor has emerged: Liverpool.
According to Christian Falk from Bild, Michael Edwards, Liverpool’s CEO of football, has met in Boston with FSG (Fenway Sports Group) executives to present a plan to secure Wirtz’s signing. The operation could reach €150 million, which would make it a record-breaking deal both for Liverpool and the Premier League.
Edwards is a key figure in the Reds’ sporting decisions, but such a massive investment requires approval from the club's owners, including principal shareholder John W. Henry. According to Kicker, Wirtz and his parents, who act as his advisors, recently travelled to Blackpool to meet with Liverpool representatives and discuss the club’s sporting project — a proposal that reportedly left them very impressed.

With Xabi Alonso expected to take over as Real Madrid’s new coach, the Spaniard has reportedly requested the signing of Wirtz, one of his key players at Leverkusen. The attacking midfielder blossomed under Alonso’s guidance, becoming one of the most sought-after young talents in Europe.
While many believed the player had already chosen Bayern Munich, the strength of Liverpool’s approach has cast doubt on that assumption. Some sources even say the Wirtz family is displeased with Bayern for prematurely assuming the deal was done, which could shift the balance in favour of the English club.
If Liverpool ends up signing Florian Wirtz, some will see it as payback for Real Madrid’s aggressive pursuit of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been heavily linked with a move to Spain.
Liverpool’s interest could trigger several exits to fund the transfer, including names like Caoimhín Kelleher, Kostas Tsimikas, and even Luis Díaz, who is being closely followed by Barcelona.
Mbappé aims for the Golden Boot
Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappé continues to make headlines in Spain. The Frenchman has now scored in five straight matches for Real Madrid, tallying 29 goals in LaLiga. This allowed him to surpass Alfredo Di Stéfano’s record of 27 goals in his debut league season with the club.
Mbappé is now just one goal away from reaching the 30-goal mark in his first season, something only Ronaldo Nazário, Pruden, and Romário have achieved in Spanish football history.
In all competitions, Mbappé has netted 41 times this season. With one league match left and the Club World Cup ahead, the striker has a chance to surpass his personal best of 44 goals set with PSG. Currently, he is in a tight race for the Golden Boot, trailing Viktor Gyökeres (Sporting CP) by just half a point, and competing closely with Mohamed Salah, who has two games left with Liverpool.
