Dani Olmo: "We Have a Fantastic Team"
The new Barcelona forward assured that he always wants to win and hopes to bring a lot of joy to the fans.
Striker Dani Olmo, the latest addition to Hansi Flick's Barcelona squad, stated that the club has "a fantastic team" and he hopes to "bring a lot of joy to the fans."
In an interview with the club's media, Olmo, who left Barcelona ten years ago in search of growth opportunities first in Zagreb (Dinamo) and more recently in the Bundesliga (Leipzig), admitted he is "an ambitious person."
"I always want to win. This is what I want to do at Barça," said the forward, who described Barcelona as his home and noted that he has all his family and friends here, making his return "special."
"Returning home was a dream for me. The club fought to make it happen, and there was no other way to do it. There were other options, but when Barça came with this eagerness and initiative, I didn't think twice. Returning home, with my family and friends, was a dream," he emphasized.
He acknowledged that his standout performance in the last Euro, where he was one of Spain's top scorers, brought him back into the spotlight and mentioned that he is probably experiencing one of his best football moments ever.
Olmo spoke about his beginnings at Barça, where he only played as a center-forward, and how he has evolved over time to take on different roles.
He praised "the work, the idea, the philosophy, and everything that Barça transmits through La Masia." "The values conveyed are evident at every stage and are improving by leaps and bounds. When I was at La Masia, there were many players, but now there are even more who have made it to the first team," he insisted.
Regarding his transfer to Barça, Olmo revealed that he could not speak with coach Hansi Flick before it happened, despite their previous acquaintance in the Bundesliga.
Instead, he communicated with the sporting director, Anderson da Souza 'Deco.' "He conveyed the coach's desire to bring me here," said Olmo, who is excited to play alongside great players, both from the Spanish national team and globally (mentioning Frenkie de Jong, Robert Lewandowski, Ronald Araujo, among others) and in the new Spotify Camp Nou.
He also commented on Lamine Yamal: "He is an innate talent, a very good person, very healthy within the locker room, and I hope he brings us a lot of joy." Olmo admitted he gets along "very well with him" and has a "good connection" with the young emerging star of Barça.
