Barcelona Confident in Registering Dani Olmo
FC Barcelona is racing against time to finalize the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, two key players whose contracts are currently hindered by LaLiga's wage cap restrictions. While the original deadline for regularization was December 31, 2024, the club remains optimistic about resolving the issue before the January 31, 2025 transfer window closes or, at the latest, by the official Spanish market deadline on February 2.
Barcelona’s Strategy
The club has already appealed to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for permission to process new licenses despite existing restrictions. Should this request be denied, Barcelona is prepared to take the matter to ordinary courts to seek a precautionary measure allowing both players to compete officially across all competitions.
Barcelona argues that the current rule, which sets December 31 as the deadline for resolving salary cap issues, disproportionately affects clubs with financial constraints. The club has proposed extending this deadline to the end of the winter transfer window, aiming not only to resolve their current predicament but also to establish a precedent for future seasons.
What Happens if Registration Fails?
In the unlikely event that Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor cannot be registered before the deadline, both players could exercise an exit clause to terminate their contracts. However, both players have publicly expressed their strong commitment to staying at Barcelona, trusting the situation will be resolved in time.
Should Olmo opt to terminate his contract, RB Leipzig would be entitled to receive the fixed €48 million transfer fee agreed upon in August, although the player would forfeit his remaining salary through 2030.
The signing of Dani Olmo last summer was one of Barcelona’s marquee moves, costing €48 million plus variables. The Spanish midfielder has quickly become an integral part of Hansi Flick’s system, providing creativity and experience in the midfield. His contributions are crucial to Barcelona’s ambitions in both LaLiga and the Champions League.
Barcelona is confident that Olmo and Pau Víctor will be registered by January 31, ensuring their continued integration into the squad. In the meantime, the club is actively pursuing all legal avenues to safeguard their contracts, which extend to 2030 for Olmo and 2029 for Pau Víctor.
This effort underscores Barcelona's commitment not only to retaining top talent but also to advocating for fair regulatory practices within LaLiga. By ensuring the registrations are completed, Barcelona aims to solidify its squad’s competitiveness for the remainder of the season.
