Barcelona and Atlético to Miami? This Player Complained
LaLiga EA Sports is working on the possibility of moving the match between Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, scheduled for Matchday 18, to Miami, USA. The game, planned for December 21 or 22, still requires approval from FIFA, UEFA, and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to be held outside Spain, according to El País.
This is not the first time LaLiga has tried to organize a game in the US. In 2018, a Barcelona-Girona match was also considered for Miami, but the plan was blocked by football authorities. Now, the American company Relevent, specialized in sports events, is leading negotiations to hold the Barcelona-Atlético game in the US, although talks have not progressed much so far.
However, José María Giménez, Atlético de Madrid defender, has expressed his opposition to the idea. "I hope it’s played here, with the fans in Spain, who follow us at every game," the player said on Tuesday when asked about the possibility of moving the match abroad.
If the game is not relocated to Miami, it will take place at the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys in Barcelona, as originally scheduled.
