United States defeats Australia 2-0 and secures qualification in Group D
A dominant start in Seattle
In a match played in Seattle, United States defeated Australia 2-0 and secured qualification to the next stage of the tournament in Group D. The American side started with high intensity, dominating possession and consistently playing in the opposition half, while the Socceroos relied on a low and well-organized defensive block.
The first major chance came from Dest, whose shot forced an early save from the Australian goalkeeper. However, the home side’s dominance turned into a goal in the 10th minute, when a play involving Balogun led to an own goal after a failed clearance by an Australian defender.
Freeman doubles the lead and VAR adds drama
The second goal arrived before halftime. Alex Freeman initially scored, but the play was reviewed by VAR for a possible offside. After the check, the goal was confirmed as Freeman was judged to be onside, extending the lead for the hosts and making it 2-0.
Australia tried to respond in the first half with a clear opportunity that was stopped by a crucial defensive intervention from Freeman, but they were unable to break through the American defense.
Controlled second half without brilliance
In the second half, United States lowered their intensity and lost some attacking clarity. Balogun had a chance to extend the lead in a strong run in the 50th minute but failed to convert. From that point on, the match became more fragmented, with fewer attacking sequences from the home side.
Australia pushed forward in search of a goal, but their possession lacked threat. The Oceanic side failed to create a clear scoring opportunity despite increasing pressure in the final stages of the match.

United States advance with confidence
At full time, United States confirmed a 2-0 victory and secured qualification to the next round. The upcoming match against Turkey will decide first place in the group, setting up a decisive clash for group leadership in the tournament.
