The Incredible Negative World Cup Record Manuel Neuer Has Matched
Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer made World Cup history once again, but this time for an unwanted reason. The veteran shot-stopper matched a negative record that had long belonged to a legendary Mexican goalkeeper.
Manuel Neuer has been one of Germany's greatest strengths for more than a decade, thanks to his consistency and leadership between the posts. However, at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the veteran goalkeeper added an unwanted milestone to his remarkable career, matching a record no goalkeeper hopes to own.
The goal scored by Julio Enciso during Paraguay's Round of 32 clash against Germany carried more significance than simply putting the Germans under pressure. It marked the tenth consecutive World Cup match in which Neuer has conceded at least one goal, tying the all-time record previously held outright by Mexican legend Antonio "La Tota" Carbajal.
Neuer Matches an Unwanted Historic Record
The streak began after Neuer kept a clean sheet against France in the quarterfinals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Since then, spanning the tournaments in Russia 2018, Qatar 2022, and the current 2026 edition, the German goalkeeper has been unable to finish a single World Cup match without allowing a goal.

With this streak, Neuer also moved past several legendary goalkeepers, including Jorge Campos, Thomas Ravelli, Jean-Marie Pfaff, and Gyula Grosics, all of whom had previously ranked among the players with the longest consecutive run of World Cup matches conceding goals.
Germany's Defense Has Also Struggled
While the statistic is attached to Neuer, it also reflects the defensive issues Germany has faced over the past several World Cups. Breakdowns at the back and defensive lapses have repeatedly left one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation exposed.
Paraguay's goal, scored by Julio Enciso, officially tied Antonio "La Tota" Carbajal's long-standing record, which had stood since the World Cups played between 1950 and 1962.
