Jhon Duran in Crisis: Four Clubs in a Year, World Cup at Risk
The Colombian striker’s off-field issues and constant moves have raised serious doubts about his World Cup chances, with federation leaders unconvinced.
Jhon Jader Duran’s career is facing one of its most turbulent moments since his breakthrough in European football. The Colombian striker, who once impressed in the Premier League with Aston Villa, has played for four different clubs in just one year, raising serious concerns about his future.
After arriving from Chicago Fire, Duran quickly made an impact at Aston Villa, scoring 12 goals in just 1,046 minutes and establishing himself as one of Colombia’s brightest prospects. However, his move to Al Nassr marked a turning point.
In Saudi Arabia, he maintained strong performances with 12 goals in 18 matches. Yet, his off-field behavior began to overshadow his talent. Club officials accused him of negotiating with other teams without permission, labeling his actions as unprofessional.
Duran then moved to Fenerbahçe in Turkey, where his production dropped significantly. He managed just five goals and three assists, fueling concerns about inconsistency. Now in Saint Petersburg, his struggles continue, with only one goal in four appearances.
Off the pitch, the situation has worsened. Colombian journalist Javier Hernández Bonnet revealed that top officials within the Colombian Football Federation hold a very negative view of the striker, even describing him as a “very bad kid.”
These comments highlight a troubling reality: Duran is currently out of favor with the national team. Between his unstable club career and ongoing off-field issues, his chances of playing in the upcoming World Cup are increasingly slim.
