Carlo Ancelotti revealed Brazil plan to "build a new team" following their disappointing World Cup campaign.

Brazil's hopes of winning the tournament for the first time since 2002 were dashed in the last 16, when they lost 2-1 to Norway.

It is the earliest Brazil have been eliminated from a World Cup since 1990, when they were knocked out by Argentina in the round of 16.

The Selecao had reached at least the quarter-final in each of their last eight World Cups prior to the 2026 edition.

Norway also remain the only team that Brazil have ever faced and failed to beat, with that the fifth meeting between the two nations, with Norway running out winners on three occasions and drawing the other two.

Brazil's all-time top scorer Neymar has already announced his retirement from the national team, while the long-term futures of Casemiro and Marquinhos are also up in the air.

"We will begin to build a new team, observing and testing young players, but without ruling out some athletes who were with us at the World Cup and who still have a lot to contribute to the national team," Ancelotti said.

The next major tournament for Brazil is the 2028 Copa America, while Ancelotti's side face Australia in two friendly matches this September.

The Italian coach will now focus on integrating younger players into the squad, as they look to build towards for the 2030 World Cup.
