La Copa Del Rey Final: Date and Venue Confirmed
The Copa del Rey now has an official date and venue for the 2026 final. Atlético de Madrid and Real Sociedad will battle for the trophy at La Cartuja Stadium, once again making Seville the heart of Spanish football in April.
Out of the 115 teams that started the competition, only two remain. Atlético de Madrid secured their spot in the final after eliminating FC Barcelona, coached by Hansi Flick, while Real Sociedad advanced after winning a tense Basque derby in the semifinals.
The final will be played on Saturday, April 18, at Estadio La Cartuja in Seville. It will mark the seventh consecutive year that the Real Federación Española de Fútbol has selected the Sevillian stadium as host, and the ninth Copa del Rey final held in the Andalusian capital. Following recent renovations, the stadium has increased its capacity to 72,000 spectators.
Originally, the Federation had considered April 26 as the potential date. However, due to the overlap with Seville’s annual April Fair, the match was moved forward. The decision also took into account the schedule of the Spanish Royal Household to ensure that King Felipe VI can attend the final and present the trophy to the champions.
Another factor in the scheduling process is the European campaign of Real Betis, who are using La Cartuja as their temporary home while renovations continue at the Benito Villamarín Stadium. If Betis advance further in the UEFA Europa League, a potential quarterfinal second leg could be scheduled at La Cartuja on April 16. In such a case, organizers would coordinate with UEFA and the club to adjust arrangements if necessary.
With the date and venue officially confirmed, clubs and fans can now circle the calendar. Seville is set to once again host Spanish football’s grand night, where a new Copa del Rey champion will be crowned.
