Viña del Mar: Garden City Venue Nested Among Lush Environment
Viña del Mar: Garden City stadium welcomes fans among lush vegetation.
The 'Garden City' is just one hour from Santiago and is an idyllic summer destination. The city will open its doors to the Copa América when it hosts the draw on November 24.
Viña del Mar is regarded as one of the main tourist destinations in Chile. Located on the Pacific coast and with a Mediterranean climate, the ‘Garden City’ is hugely popular during the summer.
STADIUM
Opened in 1929, Estadio Sausalito hosted several matches during the 1962 World Cup, including Brazil’s quarter-final win against England and the semi-final between Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia.
It was used again during the 1991 Copa América, with eight group stage matches played there.
Marcelo Bielsa’s Argentina team, featuring a young Carlos Tevez, won the pre-Olympic Games tournament at El Sausalito before going on to take gold in Athens 2004.
