The margin is minimal, leaving the tie completely open as it now moves to one of the most difficult venues in South American soccer.

LDU Quito Trusts the Altitude to Complete the Comeback

The first leg was defined by Palmeiras’ dominance, with the Brazilian side producing 28 shots and finding the only goal of the match in the 25th minute, when Agustín Giay struck to give Abel Ferreira’s team the advantage.

However, Gonzalo Valle prevented the deficit from becoming larger.

The LDU Quito goalkeeper kept his team alive for much of the match and allowed the Ecuadorian side to return home with a realistic chance of advancing.

Now the setting will be completely different.

LDU Quito has won nine of its last 11 home matches in the Copa Libertadores and needs a one-goal victory to level the aggregate score.

There is also a recent precedent that cannot be ignored: in October 2025, the Ecuadorian side defeated Palmeiras 3-0 at the Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado, although the Verdão later completed the comeback in that semifinal with a 4-0 victory in Brazil.

The Brazilian side arrives in Quito knowing that a draw will be enough to secure a place in the semifinals.

Palmeiras, the reigning Copa Libertadores runner-up, also has an impressive record away from home, having lost only one of its last 10 road matches in the tournament.

Interestingly, that lone defeat came against LDU Quito.

In the first leg, Jhon Arias was one of the Verdão’s most dangerous players, directly contributing to 10 shots through his own attempts and chances created for his teammates.

Now Abel Ferreira’s team will have to protect a narrow advantage against an opponent that needs to attack from the opening whistle.
