Sporting CP look to retain the Portuguese Cup final against a fairytale team in Torreense
The 2026 Portuguese Cup Final is set to be a true David vs. Goliath affair between one of Europe's most famous clubs and a side from the second tier of Portuguese football.
Sporting CP are the reigning Portuguese Cup champions and looking to win the trophy for the 19th time in the club's illustrious history. The Lisbon side have already proved their quality in the competition this season, having beaten FC Porto over two legs in the semifinals.
Sporting's opponents, Sport União Torreense, may hail from Portugal's second division, however the side should not be overlooked in the showpiece game at the Estádio Nacional. Torreense finished third in the Liga Portugal 2 this season and are in a playoff to win promotion to the top-flight, where they could face Sporting CP once again.
For Sporting CP, it’s a truly a match that the team cannot afford to lose, but for their opponents even being in the final is a victory, but to go one step further would be a veritable triumph.
