Chaos and Madness in the Prague Derby: Pitch Invasion, Injuries and an Early Ending
Slavia Prague supporters stormed the pitch, threw flares and smoke bombs, and injured Sparta Prague goalkeeper Jakub Surovcik during a chaotic ending to the Czech derby.
A chaotic and extremely dangerous scene unfolded at Fortuna Arena and overshadowed the dramatic ending of the Czech derby between Slavia Prague and Sparta Prague. With only minutes remaining, a large group of Slavia supporters invaded the pitch while throwing flares and smoke bombs onto the field.
Amid the disorder, one flare struck Sparta Prague goalkeeper Jakub Surovcik in the face, causing him to collapse on the pitch. Security personnel and medical staff immediately rushed onto the field to assist the player and evacuate him from the dangerous situation.
With authorities unable to restore order inside the stadium, the referee decided to abandon the match before full time despite only a few minutes remaining. Sparta Prague players quickly ran toward the tunnel and took shelter inside the team bus while flares continued to ignite throughout the stadium. Czech police deployed riot-control units around Fortuna Arena in an effort to regain control of the situation. Following the incident, authorities confirmed that security camera footage was being reviewed and that legal action would be taken against those responsible.
According to reports, the disturbances were caused by a group of Slavia Prague hooligans who stormed the field prematurely to celebrate what they believed would be a title-clinching victory. However, many Slavia supporters condemned the violent behavior, arguing that the incidents ruined what should have been a historic celebration for the club. Slavia Prague president Jaroslav Tvrdik publicly addressed the situation on social media, admitting the club could not justify what had happened. “We have no words to justify it,” he wrote. “Fans invaded the pitch and disrupted the match, which was eventually abandoned due to unforeseen circumstances.”
Tvrdik also confirmed that any identified individuals involved in the disturbances would receive lifetime bans from Fortuna Arena and could face further legal consequences. In addition, the club plans to seek compensation for damages and any sanctions imposed by football authorities.
Before the chaos erupted, Slavia Prague had been leading 3-2 and appeared moments away from securing the league title. Instead, the celebration turned into one of the most shocking nights in recent Czech football history.
The Czech Football Federation has already announced that severe disciplinary measures will be imposed on Slavia Prague over the organization and security failures surrounding the match.
