River Plate to Receive Financial Benefit from Ocampos’ Transfer to Rayados
The recent transfer of Lucas Ocampos from Sevilla FC to Monterrey for $8 million has brought good news for River Plate. The Argentine forward’s move not only marks a new chapter in his career but also provides significant financial benefit to his former club. River Plate will receive €140,000 due to FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, which supports clubs that contribute to the development of young players.
The solidarity mechanism, applicable to clubs that have developed players between the ages of 13 and 23, grants River Plate 1.75% of Ocampos' transfer fee. Since Ocampos was sold at 18 years old after a standout performance in his first six months in Argentina’s top division, the club directly benefits from this transfer, highlighting the value of its investment in nurturing young talent.
Throughout his European career, Ocampos made notable contributions at clubs such as Monaco, Olympique de Marseille, Genoa, Milan, and finally Sevilla FC, which acquired him permanently in 2019. His performance at Sevilla, including a key role in winning the UEFA Europa League in 2019, solidified his standing in European football.
Despite his recent departure from Sevilla, Ocampos' impact was celebrated with an emotional farewell from the club.
