Memphis Depay's Enthusiastic Words for Corinthians
Memphis Depay was introduced with his new club, Corinthians, and praised Brazilian football for its unique qualities, highlighting its passion, energy, and intensity.
Depay expressed that it's important for European football to recognize and respect the Campeonato Brasileiro, describing it as a "top" and competitive league that represents "authentic football."
He noted that, while playing for the Dutch national team, he faced South American teams and always found their style of play challenging.
The 30-year-old forward shared that he decided to play in Brazil to experience this type of football and because he wanted to "be happy" both on and off the field.
"Why did I cross the world to play in a country like Brazil, less known to Europeans? It's very simple... I thought about what I could do to be happier, and that's why I'm here today," Depay said.
He also mentioned feeling cultural similarities with Ghana, his father's country, due to the warmth of the people and the energy of the fans.
Regarding his new team, Depay stated that Corinthians has "the potential to win many titles," despite currently being in the relegation zone. "I know it's going to be great," he affirmed.
Depay was without a team after leaving Atlético Madrid and has signed a contract with Corinthians for two and a half years, until December 2026, according to the club's statement.
