Julián Álvarez's Message That Will Win Over Atlético Fans
Julián Álvarez, Atlético Madrid's new signing, has made a promise that is sure to win the hearts of the club's fans. The Argentine forward declared that what he can "promise" is to always give his all on the pitch to win with the red and white jersey and to "help the team" achieve titles.
"If there's one thing I can promise, it's that I will always give my best effort on the field to win with this shirt and help the team," Álvarez expressed in a video shared by the club. He added that he is "very happy and excited" and has "high expectations."
The 24-year-old Argentine, who signed with Atlético Madrid until 2030 for what 'The Athletic' reports as a $75 million fixed transfer fee from Manchester City, plus $20 million in variables, though no official figures have been disclosed by either club, is one of only five players in history to have won the treble (World Cup, Champions League, and Copa Libertadores).
Álvarez, who is eager to find his "best version to leave the club at the top," highlighted his strong relationship with Diego Pablo Simeone, Atlético's head coach, and his sons. He shared that he played alongside Gianluca in River Plate's youth ranks, with Giovanni in the Argentine national team, and with Giuliano at the recent Paris 2024 Olympics, where they will also be teammates at the Madrid club.
"I played with Gianluca in River Plate's youth teams, with Gio in the national team, and now with Giuliano in the Olympics. The 'Cholo' told me I've been with the 'little Cholo,' and now I'm going with the big one," said Álvarez. He also mentioned that he spoke with his fellow countrymen Rodrigo de Paul and Nahuel Molina, as well as French star Antoine Griezmann, before finalizing his transfer, and explained the origin of his nickname, 'La Araña' (The Spider).
