Boca Juniors Secures Spot in 2025 FIFA Club World Cup
Boca Juniors experienced a bittersweet night after being eliminated from the Copa Sudamericana in the Round of 16, losing to Cruzeiro in a penalty shootout. However, despite the disappointment, the Xeneizes received some consolation: their place in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is now secured.
The elimination was a tough blow for Boca fans, but their despair turned to relief when the team, coached by Jorge Almirón, secured their spot in the prestigious international tournament. This was made possible by a combination of results: Nacional's defeat to São Paulo, San Lorenzo's elimination by Atlético Mineiro, and Talleres' loss to River Plate. These outcomes, along with Boca's strong standing in the rankings, confirmed their qualification as one of South America's representatives.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled to take place from June 15 to July 13, will feature six South American teams. Palmeiras, Flamengo, and Fluminense have already qualified by winning the Copa Libertadores in 2021, 2022, and 2023 respectively. Due to the two-club limit per country, River Plate secured the top spot in the ranking, while Boca, despite their Sudamericana exit, clinched the second spot available through the rankings.
There is only one remaining slot for the Club World Cup, which will go to the 2024 Copa Libertadores champion, or to Olimpia if the winner is Flamengo, Fluminense, or River Plate. Despite their recent setback, Boca Juniors can look forward to another opportunity to showcase their prowess on the global stage.
