Idrissa Gueye addresses AFCON 2025 final controversy: “No one can force me to hate Morocco”
Idrissa Gueye, midfielder for Everton FC, reacted to CAF’s controversial decision regarding the AFCON 2025 final, combining criticism with a message of unity.
Gueye’s stance after the title decision
The Senegal international expressed frustration but made it clear his relationship with Moroccan players like Adam Aznou remains unchanged.
"We laugh about it because sometimes it’s funny. We are all brothers and no one can force me to hate the Moroccan people. Morocco and Senegal have a good relationship".
Gueye defends Senegal’s victory on the pitch
Despite his calm tone, Gueye strongly disagreed with CAF’s ruling.
"I think this decision is simply ridiculous. We won the match on the field, not in offices, and as a Senegalese player I am very proud of what we did. We deserve this trophy".
He also insisted that the outcome on the pitch remains what matters:
"If we played this match ten times, we would win it ten times. Not because we are better than Morocco, but because it was our destiny".
He added that external decisions do not change what happened during the game:
"What matters is on the pitch, not what is written on paper. We won it there and no one can change that".
Why did CAF award the title to Morocco?
CAF’s Appeals Committee sanctioned the Senegal national team for leaving the pitch without the referee’s permission.
As a result, the match was officially recorded as a 3-0 win for Morocco, awarding the title to the Atlas Lions.
