Morocco secures a 1-0 victory against Zambia, marking a standout start in the AFCON and ensuring Ivory Coast's qualification in the final moments of the group stage of the Total Energies AFCON 2023.
The "Atlas Lions" provided an thrilling conclusion to the first phase of this wonderful AFCON. Zambia sought to secure their advancement with at least a draw, attempting shots on goal throughout the match. However, these attempts were thwarted by the monumental performance of Yassine Bounou, who prevented his goal from falling at all times.
The goal that sealed Morocco's victory resulted from a poor clearance by Mulenga (Zambia's goalkeeper), seized by Hakim Ziyech with a powerful left-footed shot to score the winning goal in the 37th minute.
This result classified Morocco as the top team in Group F with 7 points, surpassing the Democratic Republic of Congo with 3 points. Additionally, it secured Ivory Coast's qualification in the final moments of the group stage. Unfortunately, Zambia failed to achieve its goal and had to bid farewell to the AFCON 2023.
