The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) Ratified Regragui as the Head Coach of the National Team, Despite their Elimination in the Round of 16 of AFCON 2023
"The FRMF renews its confidence in Walid Regragui to lead the next stage, providing him with all the means to achieve the level that Moroccan football deserves, in general, and the national team, in particular," the federation said in a statement.
The FRMF made this decision after a meeting chaired by its president, Faouzi Lakjaa, to evaluate the performance of the Moroccan team in the African Cup of Nations, and especially the "mistakes" made during the last match against South Africa in the round of 16, which ended with Morocco's defeat by 0-2.
The statement notes that the elimination of the team, which was one of the favorites to win the cup, "saddened all components of Moroccan football."
Lakjaa called for efforts to "satisfy Moroccan fans" in the upcoming competitions, mainly in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the next Africa Cup, which will be held in Morocco next year. Morocco keeps Regragui as coach despite his failure in the Africa Cup.
