What is Futsal?

Futsal is fast and furious five-a-side soccer in an indoor arena, perfect for players who have world-class close-control skills and sensational stamina. Games are divided into two periods of 20 minutes with time stopping at every dead ball and a 15 minute break in between each period. Although only five players are allowed on the pitch per team, 12 can be used throughout the game with unlimited substitutions. 

What's at stake in the 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations?

The eighth edition of the competition is being held in Morocco and features eight teams divided into two groups of four: Morocco, Angola, Ghana, and Zambia are in Group A with Egypt, Libya, Namibia and Mauritania in Group B. The top two of each group will then move to the semifinals. As an extra incentive, the three top-placed teams will qualify automatically for the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup. 

Who are the favorites?

Morocco are both hosts and defending champions, however Egypt are three-times winners and were also runners up in the most recent edition in 2020.
