Audi Makes Key Move Ahead of Joining Formula 1
The German manufacturer confirms a multi-year alliance with Revolut as it prepares for its ambitious Formula 1 debut in 2026 under major technical and structural changes.
Audi announced its main sponsor for 2026 as it gears up to enter F1 through Sauber under the new regulations.
Audi Sets Foundation for 2026 Debut
Set to join the Formula 1 grid in 2026, Audi will take over Sauber as part of a historic expansion. With new engine and chassis regulations coming into effect, the German company is making key preparations to ensure a smooth transition. The latest move came this week with the announcement of Revolut as the team’s main partner. The British fintech giant will have its name and branding integrated prominently across the team.
Gernot Döllner, CEO of AUDI AG and chairman of Sauber Motorsport AG, revealed that the partnership extends beyond sponsorship. “Revolut will be closely involved in the financial operations of the team,” he said. He also emphasized that Audi’s entry into F1 is a calculated move aimed at long-term technological and economic impact.
Shared Vision Between Audi and Revolut
Team principal Jonathan Wheatley described the alliance with Revolut as more than symbolic. “This goes far beyond brand alignment. It’s a strategic partnership rooted in shared ambition and innovation,” he said. For Audi, Formula 1 is not just a racing project—it’s a global platform to reach new audiences and grow its identity.
Nik Storonsky, CEO of Revolut, added that the company is preparing to bring its nearly 100 million customers into the F1 fold through “unforgettable experiences.” The move signals Revolut’s commitment to expanding into new arenas and leveraging motorsport’s popularity.
A Challenging Transition Awaits
While the excitement is palpable, Wheatley also acknowledged the road ahead won’t be easy. With testing for the new car set to begin in January 2026 and the current season concluding in December 2025, the team will face an intense winter of development. “It will be the most demanding off-season in F1 history,” he admitted.

Despite the challenges, the union between Audi and Revolut represents a strong start for the new team.
