Zoe Hobbs wrote a new chapter in New Zealand athletics history by winning the gold medal in the women’s 100m final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The sprinter delivered a historic performance in the rain at Scotsoun Stadium, becoming the first New Zealand athlete to win this event in Commonwealth Games history while also setting a new Oceania record and personal best with a time of 10.93 seconds.
HOBBS BREAKS BARRIERS AND ENTERS NEW ZEALAND HISTORY
The women’s 100m final will go down as one of the most significant moments in New Zealand sport. Zoe Hobbs proved her elite level with a flawless race, overcoming difficult weather conditions and defeating a field filled with top-class sprinters.
Her 10.93-second performance was enough to secure the gold medal. After crossing the finish line, the champion admitted she was still processing the magnitude of her achievement, noting that simply reaching the Commonwealth Games had already represented a major challenge in her career.

England’s Amy Hunt claimed the silver medal with a time of 10.98 seconds, confirming her status among the Commonwealth’s top sprinters. The British athlete, who already owns a world medal in the 200m, celebrated being part of a group of competitors who have left their mark on the event.
Meanwhile, Australia’s Torrie Lewis earned the bronze medal with a time of 10.99 seconds, a performance that also set a new Australian national record.
