ESPN's Brett McMurphy and Chris Low are reporting Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin will be the next head coach of the Florida Atlantic Owls.
According to the report, Kiffin will remain with the Crimson Tide through the College Football Playoff. Under Kiffin's instruction, Alabama's offense finished the 2016-17 season ranked 15th in total yards (6,127) with freshman QB Jalen hurts.
Kiffin joins an elite fleet of big name head coaches in the state Florida -- with the likes of Jimbo Fisher (FSU), Jim McElwain (UF), Charlie Strong (USF), Scott Frost (UCF), Mark Richt (Miami), and Butch Davis (FIU) all competing for recruits in the state.
Kiffin coached the Tennessee Volunteers in 2009 before accepting the head coaching job at the University of Southern California in 2010. Kififin was fired from his post at USC in 2013, and accepted the Alabama OC job in 2014.
Kiffin and Davis, both coaching in Conference USA next season, have NFL experience. Kiffin served as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders for the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
Davis was the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys in the early 1990's, before becoming the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes.
