The Harbaugh Brothers Clash Ends with Ravens Victory
This victory marked John’s third win, at age 62, over his 60-year-old brother Jim. The previous two victories came in 2011 and in Super Bowl XLVII when Jim was at the helm of the San Francisco 49ers.
The Baltimore Ravens, led by head coach John Harbaugh, defeated the Los Angeles Chargers, coached by his brother Jim, 23-30 on Monday night to close out Week 12 of the 2024 NFL season.
The Harbaughs remain the only brothers in NFL history to face each other as head coaches.
With this win, Baltimore improved to 8-4, holding second place in the AFC North, trailing the Pittsburgh Steelers, who lead with an 8-3 record.
Despite the loss, Los Angeles maintained second place in the AFC West with a 7-4 record.
Lamar Jackson shone as quarterback for the Ravens, recording three touchdowns—two through the air and one on the ground. On the Chargers’ side, Justin Herbert scored a rushing touchdown but was sacked four times.
The Chargers’ offense started strong, with Herbert leading a 70-yard drive that ended with his rushing touchdown, putting the team ahead 7-0.
In the second quarter, Los Angeles extended their lead to 10-0 with a 42-yard field goal by Cameron Dicker.
The Ravens responded, narrowing the score to 10-7 with a ground-heavy drive powered by Derrick Henry, culminating in a Lamar Jackson rushing touchdown. Baltimore then turned the game around, taking a 10-14 lead with a 93-yard drive over eight plays, capped by a touchdown pass to Rashod Bateman.
Before halftime, the Chargers pulled closer at 13-14 with a 52-yard field goal by Dicker.
In the third quarter, an exchange of field goals brought the score to 16-17, but the Ravens extended their lead to 16-23 early in the fourth quarter with a touchdown reception by Mark Andrews.
The elder Harbaugh's team maintained their dominance with a powerful rushing attack, highlighted by a 51-yard touchdown run from Justice Hill, extending the lead to 16-30.
In their final offensive series, Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers cut the deficit to 23-30 with a Gus Edwards rushing touchdown but ran out of time to complete the comeback.
