Daniel Jones joins the Minnesota Vikings after leaving the Giants
Quarterback Daniel Jones, released last Friday by the New York Giants, signed a contract with the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday for the remainder of the NFL season.
Jones will earn $375,000, a relatively modest figure for his position. The Giants agreed to cover the rest of his salary, which totals $11.7 million.
Why the Giants Let Him Go
The 27-year-old was cut by the Giants following disappointing results through Week 11 of the season. The New York team fell to last place in the NFC East and is currently ranked as the worst team in the NFC.
Drafted in the first round in 2019, Daniel Jones hasn’t lived up to expectations in recent seasons, leading to his departure.
Competing for the Job in Minnesota
With the Vikings, Jones will compete for the starting role against Sam Darnold, who previously served as a backup with the Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers before landing in Minnesota.
Currently, the Vikings sit in second place in the NFC North with a 9-2 record. They’re battling for the division lead with the Detroit Lions, who have ten wins and just one loss.
In Week 13, the Minnesota Vikings will host the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday in a crucial matchup to keep their playoff hopes alive.
