(VIDEO) Giants Cut Daniel Jones, Who Will Always Be Remembered for This Terrible Play
The experiment with Daniel Jones at the New York Giants is over, as announced by the franchise, which made his release official. This comes after they insisted on making the former Duke player their franchise quarterback.
Beyond the few flashes of brilliance he showed (which were few), the player who will be sent to the bench will always be remembered for one particular play — and be warned, it’s not a positive one.
The Iconic Play That Never Was
During a Week 7 Thursday Night Football matchup against divisional rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, Jones stunned everyone with a breakaway run that completely fooled the defense. However, instead of reaching the end zone, he tripped and fell—creating a moment replayed countless times and even drawing commentary from Patrick Mahomes, who jokingly admitted he couldn't say much as he’d never run that far himself.
Jones' teammates’ reactions said it all, but his current situation is far from comedic. Once the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Jones is now headed to the bench as the Giants turn to rookie Tommy DeVito in a desperate attempt to salvage their season.
