Morgan Rogers believes he and his Aston Villa team-mates will "go down in history" after helping the club to their first major European trophy since 1982 against Freiburg. 

Unai Emery's side were comfortable 3-0 victors at Tupras Stadyumu on Wednesday, with Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendia and Rogers all on target for the Villans. 

Tielemans' 41st-minute stunner was followed by an equally exquisite finish from Buendia just before the break to put Villa on the cusp of ending their long wait for a major title. 

And it was Rogers who wrapped things up just before the hour, sliding in to turn Buendia's teasing delivery past Noah Atubolu and to seal a memorable triumph in Turkiye. 

Rogers' goal saw him become the youngest Englishman (23 years 298 days) to score in a major European final since Steven Gerrard against Alaves in the 2001 UEFA Cup (20y 351d).

In addition, since the FIFA Club World Cup, only Bruno Fernandes (21), Rayan Cherki (16) and Dominik Szoboszlai (12) have more assists in all competitions this season among Premier League players than Rogers (11), after he teed up Tielemans' opener. 

But, more importantly for Villa, they ended a 44-year wait for European silverware since beating Bayern Munich in the European Cup, and Rogers said the players involved in the success have immortalised themselves in club folklore. 

"It's hard to put into words, we've worked so hard for this. We've delivered and come through," Rogers told TNT Sports. 

"It's a great moment for the fans, great for the club. We'll go down in history. There was so much excitement. We're all really excited.

"The manager has been banging on at me to get easier goals and get into the box. I'm happy I could get a toe onto it and score.

"I'm tired but not that tired. It's all worth it in the end."

But the tone was set for Villa's seismic victory by Tielemans, who crashed the ball into the bottom-left corner with a superbly sweet volley from Rogers' smart, lofted pick out. 

His strike was Villa's seventh goal from a corner in the Europa League this season, more than any other side, with only Porto in 2010-11 (eight) having netted from more in a single campaign. 

Only Borussia Monchengladbach against FC Twente in 1975, Real Madrid against Koln in 1986 and Sevilla against Middlesbrough in 2006 have won either the final or a leg of the final in the UEFA Cup/Europa League by a greater margin than Villa's three goals (all four-goal margins).  

"I feel amazing. My voice is a bit gone, but it's all good. We put in a shift, top performance. We had a great season. To top it off with this, it's amazing," Tielemans added. 

"It's been a season with a lot of ups and downs. We started so, so bad. Our standards were very poor.

"The way we turned things around was a credit to the players and staff. We kept working, believing. We got the win in the end, the Champions League next season and a trophy."
