Salah off the mark in Super Lig with brace
Mohamed Salah scored his first two Turkish Super Lig goals to guide Trabzonspor to a 2-1 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir in its second game of the season.
Salah, who endured a quiet debut off the bench in last week's 1-1 draw with Kasimpasa, was handed his first start at Papara Park and only needed eight minutes to endear himself to his new fans.
The former Liverpool forward reacted quickest when Muhammed Sengezer inexplicably dropped what should have been a routine catch, finishing past three covering Basaksehir defenders on the swivel.
The visitor drew level through a penalty from former Roma attacker Eldor Shomurodov, after Chibuike Nwaiwu's handball, but Salah was determined to secure the points for his side.
He had a clever outside-of-the-boot attempt clawed away by Sengezer, but he restored Trabzonspor's lead with a trademark finish three minutes into the second half, cutting inside from the right flank and exchanging passes with Ernest Muci before finding the far corner.
Salah was later booked for diving when it appeared he may have been scythed down by Emin Bayram inside the penalty area, but Trabzonspor – which also saw Paul Onuachu and Sidny Lopes Cabral miss good chances – held on for its first win of 2026-2027.
