Leao made a beeline for Galatasaray's star forward Victor Osimhen as he came on the field, embracing the Nigeria international before shaking hands with the rest of his new team-mates as a packed Ali Sami Yen Stadium lauded his arrival.

Leao said an emotional farewell to AC Milan on Saturday (AEST), with the Serie A giant reportedly having accepted a €45 million ($72.8 million) offer from Galatasaray for the Portugal international.

"It's a difficult time," Leao said after Milan's 2-0 Serie A win over Venezia at San Siro, where he was not part of the squad. "I've said goodbye to my team-mates after seven years.

"Milan helped me grow and understand what top-flight football is all about. The time has come to say goodbye. I might have liked to say goodbye in a different way. The fans supported me even during the tough times.

"I know what I've achieved here; I'll go down in the club's history. All I can do is say thank you.

"My love for Milan will never end; even from afar, I'll always be watching them.

"There are times when you have to make a decision and choose a different path."

Osimhen was on the scoresheet again for Galatasaray as it came from a goal down to beat Goztepe and remain at the top of the early season standings.

Novatus Miroshi had put the visitors in front on 16 minutes, before Davinson Sanchez equalised on 33 minutes when the ball deflected off him into the goal.

Gabriel Sara made it 2-1 to Gala 10 minute into the second half, and minutes later Osimhen won and converted a penalty to put the hosts two goals clear.

But Goztepe pulled one back almost immediately through Juan Santos, and when Osimhen was denied a second as a result of a tight offside call, it made for a nervy finish for the defending champion, but it held out for the three points.
