Di Lorenzo keen to finish career at Napoli
Giovanni Di Lorenzo says he would like to end his career at Napoli as the captain prepares to lead the Serie A side it in its centenary year.
Di Lorenzo joined Napoli in June 2019 and has since gone on to make 305 appearances for the Partenopei in all competitions.
He has also led it to two Serie A titles and the Supercoppa Italiana, as well as winning the Coppa Italia with Napoli.
His current deal is set to run out in June 2028, but reports suggest he has agreed a new deal with the club since Massimiliano Allegri's appointment as head coach.
Di Lorenzo made it very clear he has no intention of leaving Napoli, especially not in the near future if the club wants him to stay.
"We want to have a good season in our centenary year. We're a good group, we know each other, and we're working hard," Di Lorenzo said ahead of Napoli's pre-season friendly with Carrarese.
"Every coach has different ideas and working methods. We're using the ball much more than in previous years, but I assure you the training sessions are very intense.
"I'd like to end my career here in Naples, which has now become my home. I'm in my eighth year. Things change quickly in football.
"If the club is happy, I'd like to finish here. It's been a long time since Matera. I faced difficulties that helped me get here. I have to keep believing in the dream I had."
Napoli is among the favourites to challenge for the Scudetto in 2026-2027, with current champion Inter Milan and its city rival AC Milan also in the mix.
Napoli would be chasing just a fifth title in what is its 100th season as a club, and Di Lorenzo is determined to make sure it is challenging for silverware.
"The goal is to be competitive in the three competitions we have, to improve," Di Lorenzo added.
"Even though I'm nearing the end of my career, there's always room for improvement, and I have a strong desire to work hard."
