Fabregas sets Premier League assists record
Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has become the first player to record 10 assists in six different Premier League seasons.
Fabregas reached the milestone in Chelsea's Premier League game against Middlesbrough on Tuesday (AEST), teeing up Nemanja Matic for the third goal at Stamford Bridge.
The midfielder lifted a clever ball over the Middlesbrough defence and found Matic, who took it down and fired through the legs of goalkeeper Brad Guzan.
Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney have both managed to reach 10 Premier League assists in five seasons, but former Arsenal starlet Fabregas now stands alone as one of the division's leading playmakers. The ex-Barcelona man also created the opener for Diego Costa, only for Cesar Azpilicueta to get the final touch before the Spain international striker broke the deadlock.
The win over Middlesbrough was also a milestone game for Chelsea which recorded its 300th home win of the Premier League era.
Diego Costa gave the host the lead after 23 minutes at Stamford Bridge, recording his 20th league goal of the season.
Marcos Alonso soon doubled Chelsea's advantage and Nemanja Matic completed the scoring after the interval to wrap up a comprehensive victory, relegating Middlesbrough in the process.
Chelsea will now be crowned champion for the second time in three seasons if it wins at West Brom on Saturday after picking up a maximum three points for the 15th time at home this season.
Manchester United leads the way with 347 victories at home in the Premier League, while Arsenal is in second after beating United 2-0 on Monday to move on to 306 home Premier League wins.
