Flamengo holds out Estudiantes in Copa Lib clash
Flamengo will be confident of reaching back-to-back Copa Libertadores semi-finals after a 0-0 draw with Estudiantes.
Reigning champion Flamengo turned in a resilient defensive display at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi, content to sit deep and frustrate its host in the first leg.
Estudiantes, which is a four-time champion, is the only non-Brazilian club to feature in the semi-finals this year, but will now have to pull off an away win at the Maracana in order to reach its first final since 2019.
Baltasar Rodriguez went close for Estudiantes early on, before Leo Pereira made a vital clearance to deny Tiago Palacios.
The unmarked Guido Carrillo failed to beat Agustin Rossi with a header, while Estudiantes was frustrated that Lucas Paqueta did not see red when he struck Ezequiel Piovi in the face.
Alex Sandro made another goal-saving block for Flamengo, as the holder held out to put its in a strong position to reach the final.
