Herrington, who made his debut off the bench in his side's shock 2-0 Premier League win over Manchester United, was handed a start in the Cup and he made it count, with a commanding performance.

The 18 year-old notched up more than 100 touches, completed 89 percent of his passes and won a number of duels, as Stoke pushed hard for a winner.

The Australian, who caught the eye of Barcelona last season while at Colorado Rapids before bursting onto the football consciousness at the FIFA World Cup, appeared at home and in control of his side's backline, as it frustrated the Stoke attack.

Herrington and his Tigers team-mates will learn their round three opponents on Friday morning.
