Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Paderborn: Nmecha's overhead kick headlines home victory

Felix Nmecha's stunning overhead kick secured a 3-0 victory for Borussia Dortmund against Paderborn in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Fabio Silva put Dortmund ahead inside five minutes but it was not until the final 10 that Niko Kovac's side put the game to bed, with Nmecha striking twice to keep BVB's 100% start to the season intact.

When Tjark Scheller failed to deal with Serhou Guirassy's clearance from deep, Silva stole in and rounded goalkeeper Nahuel Noll to slot in the opener.

Guirassy had two goals ruled out for offside before half-time, and he was kept at bay by Noll after the Paderborn keeper had thwarted Ethan Nwaneri on the hour mark.

Nmecha replaced Joey Veerman in the 65th minute and the substitute ultimately proved decisive.

He fired home his first goal 15 minutes later, showing great composure in the box after a one-two with Maximilian Beier.

In the 89th minute, Nmecha added a spectacular bicycle-kick finish to Marcel Sabitzer's cross, ensuring Dortmund kept pace with Freiburg at the top of the Bundesliga.

Positivity building at BVB

Given how consistent they have been in the upper reaches of the Bundesliga, it is hard to believe that this is the first time in 10 years that Dortmund have started a league campaign with three successive victories.

It is only the fourth time BVB have achieved that feat, and they went on to be crowned champions in two of those instances (1994-95 and 2001-02).

It is a positive omen, especially when you add to the fact that they have kept 17 clean sheets since the start of last season – no other team has more than 13 over the same period.

So, there are plenty of reasons for Kovac to be positive after his 50th victory at the helm in all competitions.

A trip to Stuttgart next weekend will provide a sterner test, but Silva will be hopeful of playing a role in another victory after scoring in back-to-back Bundesliga matches for the first time in his career.
