Leverkusen condemns Frankfurt to another defeat
Bayer Leverkusen added to Eintracht Frankfurt's misery by claiming a 3-1 Bundesliga win at Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday.
After bowing out of the Champions League in midweek, Eintracht, who finished the game with 10 men, were consigned to a sixth straight Bundesliga match without a win.
The hosts wanted a penalty within five minutes after Robert Andrich's challenge on Arnaud Kalimuendo, but referee Robert Schroder was unmoved even after a pitchside VAR review.
Leverkusen soon took control and went ahead when Arthur guided Alejandro Grimaldo's backheel past Kaua Santos in the 26th minute. Malik Tillman then made it two before half-time when he picked out the bottom-right corner with a composed finish from just inside the box.
Frankfurt pulled one back within five minutes of the restart – Robin Koch sending an instinctive follow-up past Janis Blaswich after seeing the goalkeeper save his initial volley.
Ellyes Skhiri was sent off after picking up two yellow cards in as many minutes, but Frankfurt still pressed and saw substitute Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab denied by Blaswich before Aurele Amenda glanced a header wide.
And in stoppage time, they were punished for failing to take those chances by Aleix Garcia, who tucked home a cool finish after Leverkusen caught Arthur Theate in possession on the halfway line.
