Andrich cool on speculation over Leverkusen future
Robert Andrich says he has no concerns over his Bayer Leverkusen future despite reports he could be leaving this transfer window.
Andrich joined Leverkusen in 2021 and has since made 198 appearances in all competitions, while serving as the club's captain for the 2025-2026 campaign.
The German was part of its Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal-winning squad in 2023-2024, helping the team go unbeaten in domestic competitions.
Andrich has been linked with a move away from the club during the current transfer window, but he has no intention of leaving anytime soon.
"Of course, I pick up on it through a few channels, but externally it's not just about me being talked about, but also about others," Andrich said.
"As long as I don't have the feeling that the club wants to get rid of me – and I don't have that feeling right now – I don't concern myself with a transfer.
"I see myself as number one [choice for captain] as soon as I'm confirmed in that role. Of course, I'm assuming for now that I'll remain captain. I haven't heard anything else yet.
"But until nothing is officially communicated, anything can still happen. Eddy [Tapsoba] and I have worn the armband last – it could be decided between us."
The beginning of last season was one of upheaval for Leverkusen after Xabi Alonso’s departure, with Erik ten Hag brought in as his successor.
The Dutchman only lasted three games in charge, however, before being replaced by Kasper Hjulmand, who has also since left.
Carles Martinez Novell will take charge for the upcoming campaign, and Andrich believes the team has settled in nicely under the new boss.
"We currently have a very good atmosphere in the team; there's no unrest like there was last summer, when there were so many changes," he added.
"In difficult phases, we need to stick together more in the future – and put ourselves in a position to simply strike back after 15, 20 tough minutes."
