Marseille coach Andre Villas-Boas spoke of his professional respect for his Manchester City counterpart ahead of Tuesday's Champions League encounter
Andre Villas-Boas was full of praise for Pep Guardiola on the eve of Tuesday's Champions League clash between Marseille and Manchester City.
The Portuguese coach recalled his first encounter with Guardiola when the pair were managing Portu and Barcelona, respectively.
"Both of us wanting to share knowledge on our teams and our systems. Both teams played 4-3-3 at that time and both were doing very good," said Villa-Boas.
Marseille will be looking for their first points of the Champions League group stage after conceding a stoppage-time goal against Olympiakos in their opener last week.
Mathieu Valbuena came back to haunt his former side, turning provider for Koka to net a 91st minute winner.
The Ligue 1 outfit, which edged Lorient 1-0 on the weekend, will now face the overwhelming favorites in Group C when Manchester City travel to the Stade Velodrome.
It will be the first time the two sides meet in European competition.
