Sports Burst – Can Real Madrid Kick Into Gere?
Santiago Solari compares Real Madrid to Julia Roberts as suitors line up to replace the under-fire Argentinean ahead of the club’s Champions League clash with Ajax

Real Madrid looks to avoid a third season-ending disaster in the Bernabeu against Ajax in the Champions League
Well, Santiago Solari certainly has quite the challenge on his hands for the next couple of months. Win the Champions League for a Real Madrid - a fourth time in a row - and the Argentinean might, just might be allowed to continue running the club into next season. Might.
The past week has not exactly gone to plan for Solari.
Knocked out of the semifinals of the Copa del Rey by Barcelona in the Santiago Bernabeu last Wednesday, followed just four days later by being handed another defeat by Barca in LaLiga to see the Catalans open up a 12-point gap from the top.
On Tuesday, Real Madrid will be back in the Thunderdome to try and avoid a three-match week of washouts. Ajax is in town in a second-leg of a Champions League Last 16 clash and at least Real Madrid holds a 2-1 advantage.
It's the last chance saloon for Solari – again - especially with Jose Mourinho waiting in the wings, a manager who made his desire to return for another miserable bout of managerial existence at Real Madrid very clear on beIN SPORTS.
But he is just one of many linked with the club notes Solari on Monday in the pre-match press conference making a fine early 90s cultural reference – “the club has always had more suitors than Julia Roberts.” Unless, Solari is making reference to Pretty Woman and Julia Roberts’ character. And is Jose Mourinho Richard Gere? Sports Burst better stop right there.
Tune into the Locker Room at 7:30PM ET / 4:30PM PT where the panel will work out what's next for Real Madrid and Santiago Solari.
Borussia Dortmund’s impossible dream against Spurs
Another coach that is being heavily linked with the soon-to-be vacant Real Madrid job, Mauricio Pochettino, will also be speaking on Monday.
Tottenham is also resting its hopes of the season's success on the Champions League, although the stakes are not quite as high as those at Real Madrid. Spurs are not expected to win stuff...just pick up a performance award every now and again.
Spurs are taking on Borussia Dortmund in the Last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday and are currently holding a 3-0 advantage over their German rivals thanks to both a splendid first-leg performance in London and a disastrous run of form in all competitions from Dortmund that has seen the Germans completely blow a seven-point lead over Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. But that doesn’t stop fighting talk from Dortmund’s Marco Reus speaking ahead of the game – “I think we're in a position to achieve the impossible.”
Wednesday’s games in the Champions League features PSG against Manchester United and holding a 2-0 lead from the first leg and Porto looking to turn around a 2-1 deficit against Roma.
The Sports Burst live show will be having an early look at both of these Champions League games with our Jeremy St. Louis and Ray Hudson. Just head to the beIN SPORTS USA Facebook page at 12PM ET / 9AM PT.
