Nick Rimando Announces Plans To Retire Following Upcoming MLS Season
Real Salt Lake and USMNT goalkeeper Nick Rimando announced on Friday that he plans to retire following the upcoming MLS season.
Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando announced on Friday that the upcoming MLS season will be his last. The United States international posted a statement on social media saying that he will retire after 20 seasons in the league.
Rimando began his career with the Miami Fusion and also played for D.C. United before joining Real Salt Lake in 2007. Rimando has won MLS Cup twice – in 2004 with DC and in 2009 with RSL – and is the league's all-time leader in games (485), saves (1630) and shutouts (144). He has made 22 appearances for the USMNT.
The MLS season kicks off on Saturday. Rimando's RSL open the season on the road against Houston Dymano.
