Messi Wins First MLS Player of the Week Award
Argentinian Leo Messi, forward for Inter Miami, clinched his first MLS Player of the Week award this Monday, following his goal and assist in Saturday's 3-2 away victory against Sporting Kansas City in front of 72,610 spectators.
Messi bailed out Inter at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs, which opened its doors to MLS to accommodate the high demand for tickets to see the Argentine superstar.
On Saturday, Messi became the first MLS player to tally at least five goals and five assists in his first five matches of a season.
With this award, Inter Miami now has three Player of the Week honors in eight weeks. Uruguayan Luis Suárez claimed it in the third and fifth rounds.
Inter Miami currently shares the top spot in the MLS Eastern Conference with the New York Red Bulls, who have played one game less.
