El Clasico: Barcelona and Real Madrid's New Faces
Sunday's Camp Nou clash will be the first time some of Barcelona and Real Madrid's players compete in the fiercest rivalry in sports. We look at the newbies looking to make their mark on El Clasico.
Alfredo Di Stefano, Johan Cruyff, Diego Maradona, Rivaldo, Fernando Redondo, Michael Laudrup and Zinedine Zidane are names that belong in the pantheon of soccer greats. They are also names that make up the rich tapestry of El Clasico folklore.
Barcelona and Real Madrid have always been home to some of the world's most talented players, and this season is no different with the likes of Sergio Ramos, Luis Suarez, Luka Modric and Sergio Busquets preparing for another battle against the 'old enemy'.
However, amongst the two Spanish giants' ranks on Sunday will be a number of first-timers: world-class players looking to make an impact on their El Clasico debuts.
Barcelona's New Faces
In the blaugrana corner, Brazilian midfielder Arthur, Chilean war-dog Arturo Vidal, former Sevilla stalwart Clement Lenglet and seldom-seen Malcom could feature for La Liga's top-topping side on Sunday.
Of the four, Ernesto Valverde has shown most faith in Arthur, who is becoming a more familiar presence in the center of the park having formed an impressive on-the-field understanding with Busquets. The same can't be said for Vidal who, after joining the Camp Nou outfit in the summer, has already expressed his annoyance at not having played enough.
Meanwhile, injuries to Thomas Vermaelen and Samuel Umtiti mean Lenglet is pretty much nailed to line up alongside Gerard Pique on Sunday.
Real Madrid's New Faces
Julen Lopetegui might be an old face by the end of this encounter. The Spaniard has had a torrid time at the helm of Los Blancos and, barring a very favorable result, is likely to face Florentino Perez's axe by the beginning of next week.
Other newbies include Thibaut Courtois, who will be competing with Keylor Navas for his spot between the pipes, Alvaro Odriozola and Mariano Diaz.
