Group D at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) features one of its marquee matchups on Sunday, August 2, as Ghana and Cameroon meet at Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.
Both teams opened their campaigns with victories and sit on three points, making this clash a pivotal step toward the quarterfinals.
Beyond the current standings, the fixture also carries significant historical weight, marking the 10th WAFCON meeting between two of Africa's traditional powerhouses.
Their rivalry has consistently produced tightly contested, physical matches with plenty of drama.
The Black Queens kicked off their tournament with an impressive 2-0 victory over Cape Verde, bouncing back confidently after a disappointing start in the previous edition.
Ghana displayed defensive discipline while creating numerous scoring opportunities, finishing with 26 shots. Doris Boaduwaa emerged as the standout performer, scoring her first-ever WAFCON goal and leading the attack with nine attempts.
Historically, Ghana has enjoyed the upper hand in this rivalry, posting five wins, one draw, and three defeats against Cameroon in WAFCON history.
The Black Queens have also won four of their six group-stage meetings against the Indomitable Lionesses, although they have not defeated Cameroon at this stage of the tournament since 2014.
Ghana will be looking to end a streak of five consecutive WAFCON editions without winning its second group-stage match, a result that would put the team in a strong position to advance to the knockout rounds.
The Indomitable Lionesses also opened with a victory, defeating Mali 2-1 thanks to a brilliant brace from Marie Ngah Manga, who converted two of her three shots and heads into this contest as one of the players to watch.
Cameroon has been remarkably consistent in the group stage, going 10 consecutive WAFCON group-stage matches without defeat while losing just once in its last 15 games at this stage of the competition.
Although the overall head-to-head record favors Ghana, Cameroon has become an increasingly difficult opponent in recent years. The Indomitable Lionesses will aim to continue their strong run of form and seize control of Group D heading into the final round of group-stage action.
With two in-form contenders battling for first place, this matchup promises intensity, tactical discipline, and high stakes as both sides continue their pursuit of the continental title.
